Our Orchard International Christian School high school students engage in a more advanced level of the structured ACE program. During the morning sessions, they focus on the theoretical aspects of their education and core curriculum, while in the afternoon, they shift their attention to practical applications through Complementary Activities. These activities encompass lessons, project presentations, Oral Reports, and collaborative group work, fostering confidence and refining their work study skills developed throughout their academic journey. Students take an active role in setting goals and taking responsibility for their own work and progress, a mindset cultivated since their Lower School years, evident in their achievements upon reaching the Nectarines Learning Centre.
Complementary Activities encompass a wide range of experiences, from hands-on Practical Science sessions involving tasks like building circuits, or conducting chemical experiments, to Chapel sessions where they engage with diverse worldviews and engage in rigorous apologetics discussions. Additionally, students prepare for events like the UNSC (Uganda National Student Convention) and participate in platform events, music performances, Art assignments, physical exercises, and the sharing of experiences. These activities enrich their educational journey and contribute to their holistic development.
The students study six core curriculum subjects which are:
Each core subject (except Word Building) comprises 144 PACEs. In general a student will complete 12 PACEs each year in each core subject – an annual total of approximately 72 PACEs.
The International Certificate of Christian Education (ICCE) has been available for several years and is now being accepted by universities, both in Uganda and abroad, as an alternative to the usual UACE and UCE. The ICCE is only available to students using the School of Tomorrow ACE curriculum although some credit may be allowed for work to those coming late onto the programme. The certificate is available at three levels and has been used by ACE students to gain entrance to many universities including Uganda Christian University, Durham, Manchester and Oxford. There is a fee for ICCE registration. Some courses within the ICCE also have an individual charge, such as ECDL
